Trans-Canada Highway Trip
Day 1 - Home to Vancouver
Arrived at Vancouver Airport early afternoon
Took the Canada Line metro train to travel into the city. Tap with debit/credit card at the barrier, like with TfL, rather than buy a ticket using a machine.
Checked into the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre
Dinner: La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop - 586 Hornby St, Vancouver, BC V6C 3B6, Canada
Explored Gastown, checked out the steam clock and wandered around the Coal Harbour seafront
Tried to stay awake for as long as possible
Day 2 - Vancouver
Woke up naturally at 6am, was out the hotel by 7am
Breakfast: Tim Hortons
Walked down to Stanley Park and rented a Mobi bike for an hour. Took the cycle route around the perimeter of the park.
Stopped by Roots and bought some comfy clothes
Lunch 1: La Belle Patate - 1215 Davie St, Vancouver, BC V6E 1N4, Canada
Poutine
Walked over to the Aquatic Centre Ferry Dock to get a boat over to Granville Island to visit the Public Market
Lunch 2: Everything from the market
Lee's Donuts - 1689 Johnston St, Vancouver, BC V6H 3R9, Canada
Visited Granville Island Brewing - 1441 Cartwright St, Vancouver, BC V6H 3R7, Canada
Took a boat back over to the city
Dinner: Belgard Kitchen - 55 Dunlevy Ave, Vancouver, BC V6A 3A3, Canada
Area is dodgy, restaurant is great.
Day 3 - Vancouver to Victoria
Breakfast: Breka Bakery & Café (Davie) - 855 Davie St, Vancouver, BC V6Z 1B7, Canada
Headed back to the airport using the Metro to pick up the car
Drove over to BC Ferries Tsawwassen Terminal to take a 1pm pre-booked slot over to Swartz Bay Terminal on Vancouver Island
Checked into The Parkside Hotel & Spa
Walked around and explored Victoria
Could have taken the opportunity to go whale watching on an evening tour. Potentially worth getting the car and ferry crossing a little earlier.

Day 4 - Vancouver Island
Early start, had breakfast and made a packed lunch
Drove to Sooke Potholes Provincial Park
Used the first car park, walked up by the river and back via the Galloping Goose Trial
Drove up to Juan de Fuca Trail Trailhead to walk the Botanical Beach Loop Trail
Saw whales in the straight
Headed back to Victoria, with a quick stop at Sombrio Beach
Dinner: Fishhook - 805 Fort St, Victoria, BC V8W 1H6, Canada
Fishhook Poutine, The Pondicherry
Day 5 - Victoria to Whistler
Drove to BC Ferries Departure Bay Terminal to get over to BC Ferries Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal
Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler
Checked into Summit Lodge Boutique Hotel
Evening slot at the Scandinave Spa Whistler - 8010 Mons Rd, Whistler, BC V8E 1K7, Canada
Dinner: Hunter Gather - 4368 Main St #101, Whistler, BC V8E 1B6, Canada
Day 6 - Whistler
Woke up in time to take the first cable car to start the High Note Trail
Check the cable car times ahead of time. Ideally head directly up to the Whistler Village Gondola
Plan for 4 hours to walk the full trail
Grabbed a beer at the Roundhouse Lodge
Dinner in Whistler Village, Italian, nothing special other than much needed carbs
Day 7 - Whistler to Sun Peaks
Hiked Joffre Lakes Provincial Park
Book ahead
Stopped in Lillooet at A&W for Lunch
Checked into Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre
Day 8 - Sun Peaks (Unplanned)
The plan was to travel to Jasper, but wildfires prevented this. Instead we stayed in Sun Peaks for another day.
Day 9 - Sun Peaks to Emerald Lake
Do not take the Google Maps ‘shortcut’ back onto the Highway
Emerald Lake was the replacement for Jasper. It’s the longest day driving.
Stopped at Yoho National Park Visitor Centre to buy park passes before checking into Emerald Lake Lodge
Day 10 - Emerald Lake to Lake Louise
Canoeing on Emerald Lake after Breakfast

Wapta Falls
Takakkaw Falls
Checked into Lake Louise Inn
Day 11 - Lake Louise to Banff
Hiked up and down to Lake Louise from the town
Morant's Curve
Silverton Falls
Could have gone to Johnston Canyon
Checked into Buffalo Mountain Lodge
Dinner: Alberta Wing Shack - 101 Eagle Crescent, Banff, AB T1L 1C3, Canada
Drove over to collect the takeaway order, amazing wings!
Day 12 - Banff
Bow River - Rocky Mountain Raft Tours
Hike up Tunnel Mountain
Dinner: Hello Sunshine Sushi - 208 Wolf St #101, Banff, AB T1L 1B3, Canada
Day 13 - Banff to Columbia Icefield to Banff
Huge day driving up and down the Icefields Parkway, stopping at all the viewpoints. Ideally this would have been completed on day 9 had we made it up to Jasper.

Day 14 - Banff to Calgary Airport
Breakfast in Banff with some shopping
Stopped at Troll Falls and hiked the loop
Dropped the car back at Calgary Airport before flying home
